ooh! I loves this question!

I like alllll kinds of things.

if you like E6 bands (& I know you do) check out the Spanish band Santos Dumont, for one...

My favorite band is and always will be the Beatles. I can never understand kids who think of them as 'overrated'. where you comin' from, foo'? they did it all WAAAAY before everyone else.

I went thru an early Stones phase when I was younger that was fun. during this time all these British bands were my meat and potatoes..or, like, boxty and bangers.. oh, you know. various and sundry forms of staple edibles, music wise- The Who, Small Faces, early Pink Floyd.

but then, I got out of the house and got to start going to shows and I was all about punk and metal when it came to stuff I saw live.
Some of my favorite metal bands were Ozzy's Blizzard of Ozz, Iron Maiden, and Venom. later I got into other things in that vein- Melvins, Otep, Cathedral, Type O Negative, White Zombie.

I've seen a lot of cool punk bands from their very starts; some of the punk I have liked includes Lydia Lunch, Ramones, Agent Orange, Dead Kennedys,Artless, Reagan Youth, Stooges, Meat Puppets..I could go on & on with this. I don't like the 'new' punk that's around now, but there were bands I missed that I've been turned on to time & again.

it was the 80s by then tho, so I liked a lot of college music, & 'new wave' & such- XTC, Robyn Hitchcock, Laurie Anderson, Devo, & probably scads I am missing.
I liked Goth too. Bauhaus, Christian Death, Sioxshie & the Banshees..

but..I also had this interest in prog rock & even jam bands. I went to a lot of Dead shows, even tho they weren't my cuppa. & got introduced to Phish before they got huge.

Prog bands I have loved include early Genesis, King Crimson, ELP, Thinking Plague, Gentle Giant, Gong, Yes...

and then, where do you fit some things? 'classic rock'? there are folks that are legend. Led Zeppelin, Hendrix, the Doors, Patti Smith, Neil Young, Tom Waits,Captain Beefheart,David Bowie..

some of the newer bands I like a lot include Japanese bands. I am fond of dir en grey, Thee Machine Gun Elephant, & Malice Mizer.

I also am superfond of Nirvana & the branchoff that came of Kurt's death, Foo Fighters.

newer bands I like include Last of the Juanitas,Coil, Japonize Elephants, Old Time Relijun, Brian Jonestown Massacre, Flaming Lips..and probably a dozen others I've left out.

I first saw Bryan at an Olivia Tremor Control show. he caught my attention musically later because he played a Robyn Hitchcock cover.
then I decided he was really cool cos he knew Jucifer.
oh, & cos he's kinda cute.
but he still owes me a pizza. or an interview. or something. :P

Personally, I'm all about the dB's right now. The reissue on Collector's Choice of their first two albums "Stands for DeciBels" and "Repercussions" is essential.
Other current listening: Brian Eno "Here Come the Warm Jets"
Robert Wyatt "Rock Bottom" (amazing!)
The Ink Spots (vocal jazz quartet from the '40's)
The Sinatra-Basie album (I never thought I'd like Frank Sinatra, but there you go.)
And just to prove I'm not a pussy:
The Boredoms "Chocolate Synthesizer"

Orchid Pool
Hues Corporation (yeah that's right)
Rollerskate Skinny
Happy Bullets

I just heard Db's "Bad Reputation" on the radio today.

I've always loved that Eno album, too.

Know what i'm liking at the moment? Todd Rundgren's version of "While My Guitar Gently Weeps" yeow! it rocks muchly. :)

Caravan, their album "In The Land of Grey and Pink", especially. The Lemon Pipers, Syd Barrett/early Pink Floyd, Blossom Toes, the Move, the Marmalade, the Easybeats, Kaleidoscope, Robyn Hitchcock, Can, Elmer Gantry, J.K. and Co., Le Orme, the Zombies, Tomorrow, Orange Bicycle, the Kinks, the Nice, Supersister, Nirvana (as in "Travelling on a Cloud"...the UK Band!), Aphrodite's Child, Caleb, Jon, Paper Garden, Status Quo, ...and there is one compilation in particular that I would recommend, it's of rare Austrailian bands that may have only released 1 or 2 songs, it's called "Peculiar Hole in the Sky" and really isn't too hard to get. You should really try it out.....
