My first listen was like WTF... this is pretty bland, where is the interesting production and avante-pop I'd come to expext from OTC and Age of The Sun? But upon further listens, I can see why that element is missing: IT ISN'T NEEDED. The songs are so beautifully crafted and exicuted; it is simply the songs, you know? For instance, "RX": it starts out as a pop waltz, turning swiftly into a country ballad, and finially morphing into a gospal tune... ALL WITHIN ONE MINUTE! And it's pulled off perfectly. I'd say THAT takes more time and exquisite attention than a million WC Hart tape loops (no offence).

Anyone else agree?

hate to be the guy who keeps putting the record down, but i just dont think it's very inspired at all. it's the unfortunate culmination of all the iffy musical choices they started making with the first SF tour. no reason he cant rebound from it, though, because he's certainly proved himself a talented fellow.

I agree. There's no songs I'm likely to fall in love with at first sound (or a melody) at all on the new album. To be honest, I'm disappointed a bit. :( Anyhoo, he would keep it going on and on and on, and would make a cool record again. I believe.

Oh, I forgot to add. No offence, no jelousy, no sentimental feelings against it.

The more you listen, the better it gets. It's quite fantastic. I don't think it has the easy pop hooks of his earlier stuff, but it's far more mature and interesting on repeat listenings.

If there's no pop hooks I fall in love with at first (or second or thrid) listen, I never get into it more.
Sorry. :( Even if songs are mixed with experimental sound, I need a killer melody in it.

this might be a bit vague, but generally speaking there's a bar-band thing (in the bad sense) going on with this lineup. kind of wanky guitar stylings, boring bluesy/rocky structures & sounds, just not the musical excitement or experimentalism that went on with the OTC.

Yeah, I can see that, and that would explain the straight-forwardness of the new record.

I wonder if Bill Doss was tempted to do a cover of "Another Brick in the Wall" while had the Georgia Children's Choir handy.

I would like to reiterate that this album is beautiful.

I wish people would stop comparing the Sunshine Fix with OTC. He's trying to do something a little different here, folks. And, besides, he was only a part of OTC, not the whole show obviously.

i think it's ok and reasonable to bring one up while discussing the other. granted there were totally different people giving input on bill's OTC songs as compared to bill's SF songs, but it's still the same guy doing the songwriting, and it's interesting and natural to chart his development as a writer/performer over the years, no matter what band he was in at the time.

i think that if you combine age of the sun and circulatory system you'd have one hell of an album. but instead you have two hell of an albums. so maybe it's a good thing they broke up. you can see parts in each where will and bill could make the songs even better. i'd like to listen to the two of those on shuffle. hmmm. and i don't mind comparisons as long as you're not expecting to hear something before you listen and are dissappointed when you don't hear what you expected. just don't compare them to the beatles around here.

I thought I'd just add my own two cents on this album, after listening to it for the first time the other day. It's a lot more rock 'n' roll, isn't it?

I'm actually rather fond of it. Because it seems more natural than if Doss just went away and made another Age of the Sun. He seems a lot more comfortable in this album. And there still are a lot of high points. So I think it's a yay, personally :)

well i saw them perform the material from this album before it came out so i had a pretty good idea what it would be like...and besides, it's nice to have more and more variety in the e6 camp...everyone has taken the elements that originally brought them together and ran in so many different directions with it. oh and i like the new album a lot....a couple of the videos on that dvd that accompanies it i'm not so sure of though.
