I saw her when she came to London. It being London, and Carolyn being Lovers, a super-unknown, the gig was in the basement of a pub. There can only have been about 10 or 15 people there, max - including the singer/songwriters present (of which they were about 4, with Carolyn 3rd on). I think the only people who came to see Lovers in particular were myself and a bunch of old friends of hers from Athens, although I think she actually was responsible for the majority of the audience! Most people seemed to be friends with at least one of the musicians, though, which I established from the fact that I seemed to be the only British person there.
Carolyn put on an amazing show, though. I don't think that many of the songs she played in the set (which was a regulated 30 minute one) were on the records, although I remember her playing both Winter Takes a Lover and Dream Lover/Squid Suit. The first song she played, however, was absolutely breathtaking. Sadly, it wasn't on any records. She also played a song she'd actually written while she was in London, which was pretty good.
I got to speak to Carolyn, though very briefly (mainly, 'wow, that was an amazing show' ), but she seemed really nice :)
It was definitely one of the better shows I've seen this year so far, if not, then the best.

have you heard the song Birds in the Sky on the Kill Rock Stars compilationTracks and Fields? That song made me an instant Carolyn Berk fan, her lyrics are poetry- the music is an aside...plus its a damn good comp, a lot of good bands.

yeah :)

I've not listened to that comp a lot - I listen to the Lovers song a fair bit, I've listened to a couple of others that were quite nice, but I think I need to dig 'n' delve a bit on that'un...

The Bro Danielson song is cool, Slumber Party is a rad band, but of the KRS comps Fields and Streams is the best. It has bands like the Butchies, who were just out here for Ladyfest, some crazy guy named Jeff Hansen, the Quails, Erase Erata, bad ass bands....and some good stuff if you like acoustic too.
