View Full Version : Song sequencing and Bill vs Will song order

One thing I noticed about the sequencing of the songs on each record is that OTC did what the Beatles did on the White album: every other song is a John or Paul song, or in this case a Bill and Will song...
Cubist Castle does a good job on that, and Black Foliage does for the first half of the album. But by side 4, it seems that there's three Will songs in a row, or am I having difficulty in distinguishing Bill and Will's voice? Like, is "Black Foliage (Itself)" sung by Will or Bill? What about "Another Set of Bees in The Museum"?
Does this post even make sence?

i think you are right about the three will songs in a row, and the songs you mentioned are sung by will. there are also a couple spots on cubist castle that are not in sequence, such as memories of jaqueline 1906 then to can you come down with us (i won't try and guess who wrote tropical bells, because it is an instrumental so i have no clue)
sorry for my ignorance but who does that really awesome falsetto thing on california demise part 3? is it will? sounds like bill.

All. ALL members sing that harmony!!!
I do believe that Bill is a main vocal on that song. Sexy,~~~~~...
As Bill started his own band, I can distinguish Bill's voice from Will's voice
in some sort. Maybe. "It depends on" how my condition is at the time.
yes, there are many voices on that last bit but only one is really prominent. its either thebilldoss or a perfect willbill harmony. indeed, its a sexy tune.

Al in good time... It's like learning to distinguish between John, Pual, and George (God, again with the Beatles comparisons?). At first you are like "who's who?" but eventually you can hear the differences in timbre of each of them.
Or just go listen to The Sunshine Fix and Circulatory System!

in the white album, they dont just have john, paul, or john, paul, george, but they throw in the token ringo song near the end, with dont pass me by, man that song isnt all that good
I love the song "Don't pass me by" by the beatles. Don't pass me by, don't make me cry, don't make me blue~~~.....

That and Goodnight... Although written by John as a lullabye for Julian, he has Ringo sing it. So basicly the ablum amounts to 2 Ringo songs, 4 George songs, 12 John and 12 Paul songs... roughly, that is. They tried to divide it out as I had mentioned, with 1 George song per side and one Ringo song per disc, with all the animal song on side B. They edited and segued all songs together using natural hard edits, cross fades, or culling random things from an outtake reel of jibber-jabebr and jamming. Furthermore, Not Guilty and What's The New Mary Jane were scrapped because they physicly could not fit the songs on the album.
Thank you Lewisohn...

The Beatles always included one song for Ringo on every album.

Ringo Starr is a god. Although, sadly, those of you here not from Britain won't have seen his superb narration of 'Thomas the Tank Engine'...

But we did have the pleasure of seeing him as a midget magical being on Shining Time Station. (that is Ringo, isn't it??).

Another bit of White Album / Ringo Starr trivia: "Don't pass me by" was the first song that Ringo had written for the group. He also wrote "Octopus's Garden".

Technically speaking, the Beatles always did put a Ringo song on all of the albums over which they provided input for the final product.
Magical Mystery Tour was a double e.p., not an album. These songs made up first six songs on the US version, and to these were added the additional 5 songs, from various singles. Also, Ringo has writing credit on Flying, albeit co-authorship.
Let it Be was an l.p., but the Beatles didn't exert much control over the final format, song selection, etc. So, while there is no Ringo song on this album, it was sort of an anomaly in that the Beatles weren't active participants in the whole process. I suppose you could make the argument that Paul could have rectified this situation with the Let it be..Naked release.

1) The MMM double EP? Well that's all fine and dandy, but he had no song on the *US album Magical Mystery Tour*.
2) If you are goign to count Flying, then what part did Ringo write in particular? ;)
3) That's true about Let It be, but Ringo also had NO song the Get Back LP... regaurdless of the outcome of the Get Back Sessions... Be it Get Back, Let It Be or LIB Naked, Ringo had no contributions to any of those sessions.

Will's voice is more breathy and you can hear the sigh in his voice a little more. Bill has it more centered, I guess. Just listen to Will's voice on the verses of"A Peculiar Noise..." and Bill's voice on the verses of "...Jacqueline 1906".
I guess that is why Will always has multiple vocal layers on songs with Circulatory System.
Will's voice is so sexy....that sigh..It makes me sigh also.
I love it so much.

What song does Ringo sing on a hard day's night? None, I believe.

I made an edited white album without Don't Pass Me By because it is the one weak point of that album (in my opinon). I also added a bunch of tracks from the second disk and now I have a super white album mix! I read that Paul or John helped with Octopus's Garden a good amount. So you all think that Will is the John and Bill is the Paul? Do you think that Harris is the Harrison? They have similar names there....

ringo didnt write octopuss' garden. he just had the idea. he has no writing credit on it.
'don't pass me by' is the only song written soley by mr starkey to be on a beatles album.

Wow this thread is mad old!
Untrue, man. Check out the lienr notes to Abbey Road.
And watch the Let It Be movie and you'll see George and
others helpign Rongo on the piano, arranging it. He had the
melody and progression; the pieces were there, the other 3
just put the puzzle together, you know?

Yeah, Will is the Lennon, Bill is the McCartney, but I'd say
Pete is the Harrison, no?
And how can you drop Don't Pass Me By?! Best violin solo ever. You might as will drop Why Don't We Do It In The
Road or Wild Honey Pie...
