Has anybody actually tried playing Dusk simuntaneously with the ambient bonus disk (explanation II) that the originally print of the record came with?
I'd really like to here this, it sounds like quite the experience. Too bad I was introduced to OTC only about 6 months ago; way too late to get explanation with my copy of dusk.

the bonus disc is very similar to "the bark and below it" from black foliage...ambient sounds of cars passing, birds chirping, etc. in fact, it isnt even the same length as cubist castle so nothing spectacular or revealing happens when you play em together. really you could produce the same effect by sitting next to an open window in a moderately quiet neighborhood while cubist castle plays in the background. people have mentioned how pricey the explanation disc is, so be aware that it is most definitely NOT worth overpaying for.

Is Explanation II going to be released? If not, would Olivia Tremor Control be mad if someone made the tracks available for download somewhere?
Kelly, do you know about this?

Using info from another thread, I found that both goodrecords.com and opalmusic.com have Explanations II listed for sale.

proceed with caution when ordering from goodrecords. i know for a fact that they list many records on the site that are completely unavailable (i spoke with an employee in early feb and was told that they are in the process of trying to weed these out. personally i havent seen too much change). i placed an order on jan 2 and have yet to receive any discs or any email updates, not even to tell me that things were backordered or out of stock. i called after hearing nothing for over a month and was promised that they'd ship me what they had in stock; i've seen/heard nothing in the month since.
every few months, i play both Dusk and Explanation II simultaneously during my DJ shift at WUOG here in athens. it's become a popular event in town and folks always want to know when i do it. since you're probably not in athens, you can listen online at www.wuog.org
i'll be doing it next week, in fact.
(by the way, this is my first time actually registering, but i've been reading for the past year off and on to get news and such.)

I don't know about Opal music but GoodRecords does not have the disc. I ordered it but they cancelled my order. I got very lucky and saw someone putting it on eBay with a Buy It Now of $25.00. I don't think they realized how much they could have sold it for...
perhaps they didnt realize how much they couldve sold it for, but they probably DID realize that the contents of the disc just arent that exciting. i hate to keep sounding so negative about the thing, it's just that it's not worth all the hype and mystique that has built up around it since the last time it went out of print. i feel bad that opportunistic scumbags are able to bilk folks out of obscene amounts of money for what is probably the most unimportant disc in the OTC discography (relative to everything else). though if people like it, that's certainly fine too.

I just got my hands on this disc and I would like to back up what JML has said..this disc has very little value..not because it is obscure and experimental, but that it's not very creative and offers very little outisde of some skwonky noises and field recordings...very dull, and not what you've come to expect from such a phenomenal band. You can't even drift off to sleep to it...
DO NOT PAT A LOT OF MONEY FOR THIS DISC.......UNLESS OF COURSE YOU ARE A COMPLETIST

I found it on www.cow.co.uk for £5.
It's a really good store - they take it really seriously, and you can got a lot of quite hard to come by stuff if you're prepared to wait a VERY long time (They're sending me Cherry Peel, which I inquired about and ordered 6 months ago, after they completely scoured everywhere for it, and it's still only £14. Considering you don't pay until they send it, it isn't bad.)
Not sure they'd do US delivery, but seriously worth having a look at if anyone in the UK wants to pick up Explanation II on the cheap. I didn't realise it was so expensive.
Incidentally, I did try listening to them both at the same time. It did just sound like what jml mentioned, but to be fair, I quite enjoyed it, though I think it might have been a little out of sync.
I just checked up on the C.O.W. website, and it's £6.56, + £2 p&p if you're from the U.S. - That's about $15-ish, I'd say.

the second to last track is really good, with the rain and thunder and the repetative piano. i think that song alone is worth the price of the cd.

for the first time in many years I just got the chance to listen to both of these disc simultaneously- I haven't listened to DCC for a while and thought the mix was very nice- I really focused on the different sounds and needed at times to really pay close attention to what disc was making what sounds- cool stuff. Explanations on it's own really ain't much, but combined, I do think it adds another layer to the already psych sounds of the otc! ;)

I just found a sealed copy of Explanation II at Wax n Facts in Atlanta this weekend for $5.00. I don't know if I should open it or try and sell it.
