1) OTC (duh.)
2) Godspeed You Black Emperor!
3) The Beatles
4) Flaming Lips
5) Sigur Rós
6) Battles
6) A Silver Mt. Zion/The Silver Mt. Zion Memorial Orchestra & Tra-La-La Band/(With Choir)/Thee Silver Mountain Reveries (it's all one band, but they like changing names a lot)
It's hard to think of anything else, so I'll just name bands I'm into at the moment.
7) The Go! Team

9) !!!

Supergrass live really near me, I think. They played a gig recently at the Aylesbury Civic Centre, capacity 100. I didn't go see it though, because I don't like Supergrass.
And that's all I have to say.
Apart from that I wish I had added the Essex Green to my list..

all of you zappa-haters should go out and buy "we're only in it for the money" and "freak out!" right now. why do so many people dislike frank zappa and the mothers of invention?!
I don't hate zappa. I just could never immerse myself into his records. listening to "we're only in it for the money" in full is a bit overwhelming for me, despite it being loaded with genius. and I don't mean overwhelming in a good way.

oh yeah sorry just naming a bunch of random bands wouldn't help much .comparisons are stupid so I will give a emotion or breif description
Drop City (or the Lovetones): dreamy pop music coupled with long experiments in drone
Viscious hairy mary: Carnival horror show , filmscores, multiple instuments, (hurdy gurdies, strings I think a harp and loads of toys)
purplene ;Straight indy rock, clever lyrics clever sounds all in the right places latest album produced by steve albini, if that meens anything
Dappled cities fly :make me smile, young kids having fun with sound loads of potential energy
the tigers :distant rumbling sounds like thunder , no sounds like rain screeching ouch my hair is on fire (Perth is very isolated these guys are from Perth)
turnstyle: quirky short tunes made with an assortment of casios and guitars, sing songs about troma and pouring water onto stereos
even ;1968/69 must have been fun Oh OK lets pretend
snout :see above both of these bands (snout and Even) must just hate bands like The Vines
red sun band: sexy breathy girls over layered textured noise
decoder ring ;Instumental chaos , live gigs are played to projected images on the drummers bald head
regurgitator :Stalwarts of Australian music scene very creative lyrically and musically, I don't like there new stuff as much as there old stuff but there next album is being recorded in a giant bubble in a populated area . The band members are not allowing themselves to leave the bubble for 2 months they have all the equiptment they think they will need and apparently no prior ideas for songs before they enter, they are being filmed 24 hours a day (sounds very Big Brother does that make sense oh well could be interesting.
Darron hanlon, lucksmiths etc... they are all on a little label called Candle records other cool bands, the simpletons, golden rough are on this label it would be worth looking them up ,
Have fun

I certainly loved OTC. too bad I only got to see them once. :(
now, by this do you mean including or excluding any E6 bands?
my top ten list excluding my favorite E6 bands would include:
1.The Beatles
2.Nirvana (yes, the 90s grunge one, not the 60s psychedelic one)
3.Gong
4.Yes
5.Dukes of Stratosphear/XTC
6.early Genesis
7.early Pink Floyd
8.Black Sabbath
9.Led Zeppelin
10> reserved for whatever is on my stereo this week!:D
if I DID include my E6 bands, then they'd be in this order, more or less
1.The late bp helium
2.Olivia Tremor Control
3.Neutral Milk Hotel
4.the Essex Green
would/should Jucifer count? they were in the midst of it all, and still good friends with a lot of the E6 bands, but of course their style is so wildly different. but I love Jucifer.

It's like they just graduated from the School Of Modern PsychPop...ickishly uncorporating all of the less than striking elements and doing very little to bring it alive. They sound like an uninspired Beulah with a side of hockey pucks.
LOch Ness Mouse however....

Man, I love this place everybody here has great music taste. And yes I love Magazine. Great Beatician In The Sky will forever be one of my favorite songs. I even did an album review of Real Life for another Forum I go to. But I have a feeling I'll be going to this forum just as much as the other I visit
