I just heard "A Good Man is Easy to Kill" in a Nissan commercial.

I know. I saw it a few months ago and I was scratching my head trying to think of who it was because Beulah did not seem like something Nissan would pull from...awesome song though

Lately I've been suprised by the number of previously unknown (atleast in the public's eye) musicians I've heard in commercials.
I remember the first time I heard Modest Mouse on television. My girlfriend's obsession with Modest Mouse boarders on that of religious zeal. She was sitting next to me. On my right was a friend of mine, counting birds in his mind. He turned to me, lizard head all smiley, saying "They've finally sold out."
Hell hath no wrath like that of an angry obsessor.
April tore into him. Verbal claws tearing at his soft birdy underbelly, tiny intestinal remarks spilling from his wounded mouth, covering the ground with a pool of argument.
And I sat in the middle and laughed.
Sadly, I guarentee you this. If NMH were ever heard on a Volkswagon commerical with Communist Daughter or Holland, 1945 or what have you, there would be an uproar on this board. Completely unjustified.
Money is money and I respect anyone who sacrifices to make it.
The world is a material place and even Jeff Mangum has to eat. *smirk*

I respect any man that has the ability to sell out and does. I dream of a day where I might be able to sell out. Anyone who does not sell out in order to protect their indie "cred" or what have you is a chump. There might be reasons for not that I would understand but I can not think any right now.

I've got to ask, and maybe I will be embarassed after I find out - but who is on that shoe commercial? I think it's Adidas. It's a girl singing.

i was totally surprised.
Yes, me too. I enjoy that commercial thoroughtly. One of the few good commercials as of late, outdone by only the "Counterfeit Mini Cooper" commercials.

they played both, different episodes though. they didnt feature Of montreal when they played the party's crashing us. it didnt really fit the scene at all and it seemed pretty out of place.

they've got the long winters too. "christmas with you is the best." and belle and sebastian, "if she wants me." there may be others but i can't think of any at the moment.

I was going to ask if this advert was shown in the UK but noticed this thread was started in January 04 so I guess its been and gone. Ah well. I like hearing good music on TV whatever the show/ advert is (TV and adverts are a kind of artform too after all).

I feel like a jerk reviving a dead thread but I just heard Iron and Wine's cover of "From Such Great Heights" in an M&Ms commercial and my neck nearly broke of from me twisting it to gaze at the television.
There's also a cool Grandaddy song they've been using on some car commercial recently that I really dig. Commercials are starting to use great music more and more, and I like it.

This song was totally incongruous with the commercial. It was a poor cover to begin with.
I totally agree with that.

I think it succeeded in Garden State. I covered that song, though, and I must say, I did a better job :D

i saw a Mcdonalds ad the other day where Will Cullen Hart served a soft serve to M-Ward in the background was a infant child with bright red hair and a painted face gurgling the remains of every little indi kids soul.
"Dreams can come true
Look at me babe I'm with you
You know you gotta have hope
You know you gotta be strong"

i don't agree with that one bit.. the cover is great. however, you are right about it not fitting the commercial very well.
