This christmas I have received a beautiful new belt-driven turntable. I was overjoyed to have a replacement for my old record player (which is very old, and it's job is mainly just to look cool).

It's one of those deals where apparently the manufacture ships them out semi-assembled, and the warehouse or store or wherever "completes" the assembly. Well, they did a lovely job of assembling the final parts. When I opened the box, the belt was *hanging* out from between the turntable and the base, as if someone attempted to mount it, only to decide it wasn't worth their time, and just slapped the turntable on top. On top of that, the 45 adapter it claimed was included was not in the box (why?!).

So, my holiday request of you all: how the hell do I mount a belt on a turntable? I think I've got a general idea of how it needs to be done, I'm assuming it needs to be touching the roller and the center spindle to make the turntable operate. Every time I try to get that idea going, something fucks up. I'm afraid to attempt more trail-and-error procedures, as I'll probably end up ripping the belt to pieces in a fit of rage. Then i'll have to put even more work into getting this godforsaken thing to work.

P.S. Happy New Year!

You have the right idea, it just takes some strategic bending. I had the exact same thing happen to me a couple years ago. The belt is basically a rubber band, so don't worry too much about breaking it, and if you do, you can buy a replacement for like $2. Good luck.

That one of those $100 turntable/cd player/mp3 player things they have at FYE?

Let's all hope not.

Naw, it's a Denon DP-300F

I suppose I could find out if I could get the receipt or something, but I've always thought it a bit rude to ask "can you return this gift you gave me? it's a piece of shit." I'm sure getting it to work myself is the most pain-free option I have.

I had a couple of old technic belt drives and fixing the belt was simple. I don't know how similar yours is, but all I did was lift the round table/plate up and off (with no unscrewing or anything) and loop the belt around 2 gears. it was fairly obvious where the belt went when I had the table off.
