Idaho at least has Built To Spill
Indiana (namely Bloomington) has a lot of great bands: Impossible Shapes, Magnolia Electric Co, Rapider Than Horsepower, etc.
I don't know that many good hands from either of the Dakotas, Florida (unless you are into post hardcore), Utah, Nevada, South Carolina, Vermont (Phish???), Hawaii, Alaska, etc.

Missouri (where i live) has a really shitty music scene as of now. its all metalheads and punks. Which is why playing shows with my band is so pointless. Wyoming, Delaware....etc
There's not enough room for me to lay down in several ways just how fucking stupid you are.

No. For me, England blew it's final nut in 1999. Now it's dribs and drabs.
You're an idiot because you compared a nation to a state. You didn't even have the brains to mention a scene/town/city from England...like say Manchester. Forget that we were discssing the United States to begin with. I understand reading comprehension is not always at the height of people's concern when scanning music boards
Also, you're just an idiot.

Well sweden is a country, not a state. but still, a lot of people like swedish music. I think it sucks, but a lot of people like it, peter björn and john, josé gonzalez, i'm from barcelona and stuff like that. I know it's not comperable with a state, but sweden is a really small country inhabitant whise. maby you could considerate a state.

Irony makes my insides warm.
I know that the conversation was about the United States, but that is no solid reason that i can't interject with my views on the music scene that surrounds me.
You also dismiss the relevance of size; England has a relatively universal music scene as a consequence of this. Regardless, your statement is null because i was not mentioning a nation as a state (which brings me to my next point.)
"England, it's kind of a state; it's music scene is at least." I'll try and make this easier for you to understand. This could be paraphrased as "England's music scene is a state", ie "England's music scene is poor." But I understand; reading comprehension is not always at the height of people's concern when scanning music boards.

Dude, for real. It pains me. Especially since I live in Vermont for the better part of each year.
I can at least back up Massachusetts. Galaxie 500? The MOTHERFUCKING Pixies? Come on. There are some lesser known bands that I liked a lot, too, like The Lot Six (R.I.P.). I will admit that Boston sucks though. I can't wait to leave...America, actually.

Aw, Piebald will always hold some small place in my heart. They're from the town over from my lame hometown in Massachusetts. I used to go to their shows when I was 14, 15. Nice guys.
But man, you've gotta evolve at some point! We've got the Modern Lovers and Jonathan Richman, too. And um, Mission of Burma.
It's just unfair to equate the lameness of Massachusetts with the extreme lameness of...South Dakota. I will not allow it!

As much as I hate Massachusetts and Boston, MA (more based around Northampton and Amherst) has a pretty sick fucking music scene. Ecstatic Peace! is based out of there, Sunburned Hand of the Man, everything to do with that scene, Thurston Moore/John Maloney, etc. etc. Great venues, amazing music stores (Mystery Train!) and so on.
Also, my entire childhood/teenage concert-going experience revolved around Worcester, seeing Blink 182, Bad Religion, Alkaline Trio, Get Up Kids, Blood Brothers, etc.
Vermont has MV & EE. Also, Feathers. And good bands usually go through Burlington, at least. And they have a couple good record stores.

The "state" of England has always had an awesome music scene, but it's completely different from your American scenes. Bands in the UK never used to travel very much, London bands would stick to London, Manchester band to Manchester. Occasionally they would go on country-wide tours but they mostly stuck to their local areas, so they could go out, play a show, then drive back the same night. When these bands go to America, for example when The Police did, they can only really "crack" it by touring the whole country, actually going out on the road and playing shows in many different cities.
If you think about it geographically, of course the scenes are different. England is tiny in comparison to the USA so there is a lot more inbreeding of musical styles and bands members.
I don't believe that there is such a thing as a unified English music scene, just as there isn't a Scottish music scene or an American music scene. Each city has had it's own style in the past, e.g:
the "Madchester" rave scene in Manchester and its preceding bands; Joy Division, New Order, Happy Mondays, The Smiths, The Fall
the merseybeat style in Liverpool in the early 60's from which the Beatles came.
the New Wave scene that was centered around Eric's club in Liverpool - Echo and the Bunnymen and others.
Most cities have had their own record labels and their own sounds for quite a while now, although they are definitely all merging together now, I think that some places are losing their musical identity.
To simply say that England has a bad music scene is such a stupid statement. Think before you type next time.

then, when he went into the insane asylum, they put him in Weston Mental Hospital, which i recommend visiting, especially around Halloween.
