Fan Fucking Tastic!
B.P. -> Great backup vox!
Very refreshing to hear Kev touch back to his roots (whatever that means).

I love that the audience sounds like 4 or 5 peeps clapping at the end!

The Kinks are my favorite band of forever. of Montreal is my favorite band of now. Whenever the two merge in any way, I emit a strange and wonderful light. I love the fact that BP's high harmonies really sound like Dave D's. I have alerted the Kinks list to this beautiful rendition.

It would be almost impossible for me to say because of the sheer volume of their work. For me, there is a golden age (Kink Kontroversy through Muswell Hillbillies and all the singles collected on Kink Kronikles). Village Green Preservation Society is probably the best of them all, but I've got a real soft spot for both Arthur and Lola vs. Powerman.
I lurked here for quite a while before joining, and now it is probably time for me to come clean with the fact that I am as old as, if not older than, most of your mothers, and that I discovered of Montreal because my daughter gave Hissing Fauna to my son for high school graduation. At the time, I had no idea that Kevin (and BP?) was a Kinks fan because, frankly, I didn't know anything about the band except for the fact that their name often pops up on the Robyn Hitchcock list (which consists of a smallish group of wonderful lunatics). All I knew was that the album was brilliant, and that I even liked the disco-esque songs although I don't really like disco at all. I painted our bathroom with Hissing Fauna on repeated play. It wasn't until someone from the RH list informed me that earlier oM music was often compared with earlier Kinks music that I delved back into the entirety of oM's discography and was gobsmacked at its brilliance. The Gay Parade is probably my most listened to album of the year. Anyway, I went to see Kevin and BP at the 826 fundraiser in Boston and then again when they played at The Roxy. People probably thought I was chaperoning my kids, but I've learned not to care what people think anymore. There is wonderful music still being written and performed, and I intend to make clubs build a wheelchair ramp when I'm too old to make it up the steps myself.
Well, now I've exposed myself for general derision.
dwarf, now off to help her daughter with her practice driving

Yeah, there's absolutely nothing wrong with being open-minded and appreciating good music made by another generation. Hell, how is that any different than a bunch of 20 year olds (or younger?) loving the Kinks and the Zombies? I think it just goes to show that a lot of good music manages to cut across generational lines and touch on universal emotions.

the kinks are one of the best bands ive ever heard. its sad that they are somewhat drowned in the sucess of the beatles. don't get me wrong i love the beatles just like the next guy but the kinks have a special place in my heart. I was once in a record store and i started looking at the kink's albums and the guy who worked there came over and asked me if i needed any help, and i said no, and then he goes "hmm the kinks. you know dave davies was bisexual right?" and im just like ummm okay?? it sorta freaked me out the dude had a gold tooth too.
