I have been watching tons of movies lately. I really hate most "Hollywood" movies but there are a few exceptions. What are a few that you guys would reccommend to me?

My personal favorites lately are:
-Full-Time Killer (A Chinese movie about 2 assasins in a war against one another)
-Natural Born Killers
-American Psycho
-Princess Monanoke
-Paprika
-The Holy Mountain

If you haven't seen Sweet Sixteen, a Scottish film with Martin Compton, you need to. It is my favorite movie to this day. It is the most touching shit ever. I don't know why, but it is. You can find it at a good amount of video stores. There are subtitles because it gets overwhelming.

"rocket science" is an indie movie directed by the same guy who did that spelling bee documentary "spellbound" (also awesome if you into that sorta thing)... it's by no means one of the all time great movies of all time, but it's great in its own way and the soundtrack (by eef barzelay of clem snide) is awesome.

i know it's coming out on dvd jan/feb, but i guess you're downloading movies or something? so that isn't relevant information i guess

Oh man, I saw that movie when I was about 10 and it freaked me the hell out, I'll tell you. The brains. The brains were too much for my young mind at the time.

I'm sure this shows my complete ignorance of film, but no matter how hard I try, I can't deny that my two favorite movies right now are honestly Kiss Kiss Bang Bang and Hedwig And The Angry Inch. They're just so quirky, funny, and entertaining that I can't help but love them.

Heeeey, I'm getting the Alejandro boxset for Christmas! I've actually never seen any of his stuff so I'm excited.

It will definitely be worth it! I love how the Metro Times described him: "he makes David Lynch look like Disney."

You totally missed out of you didn't see the end of Holy Mountain.

Santa Sagre is great, why it's not in the box set I'd like to know.

Has anyone seen Les têtes interverties? I think it's a feature on the new El Topo DVDs.
Also, if anyone has seen Tusk, where did you get ahold of it?

I had to stop it when the dude took his eye out.
I would have been into it when I was younger.
Now, all I watch are Hugh Grant movies.

I loved the holy mountain. My roommates got me a Kubrick disc set for christmas. I really enjoyed Eyes Wide Shut.

Last night I watched Ken Park, Magnolia, and The Doors. I really enjoyed all 3. Right now I'm watching the Triplets of Belleville, I kinda like it.

Yo P,

How is the new box? I got that years ago when it was all single-disc versions with scant special features. They are all double discs now, right?

Oh yeah they are, the only one where Ive watched both discs has been A Clockwork Orange. It has a bunch of interviews and commentaries. The best part is a 10 minute speech about the movies psychology by Kubrick. You should see John Malkovich's film Color Me Kubrick. It is pretty amazing. He plays a conman who pretends to be Stanley Kubrick in the early 90's and it is based on a true story it is pretty good. I am just finishing up Boondock Saints right now, in my opinion it is awful. I have heard such good things about it.

I watched that Nico Z Alenky that shit was insane. I also watched Begotten. These movies are good they just are so mind numbing and droning i feel like i should be on intense psychadelics.

Cult epics put out a Fernando Arrabal 3 disc set of viva la muetra, i will walk like a crazy horse, and the guycerene tree (spelling might be alittle off). I don't think the films are as good as jodorowsky's, but, they are worth watching if you can get ahold of them. Imagery is very surreal. Though, Arrabal seems to be caught up in his childhood quite a bit. Also, in the Jodorowsky crowd is Roland Topor. The fantastic planet was just re-released on dvd which is a great animation. He also did the drawings for Viva la muerta;s opening scene: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVGPoaGhRyE .

The best thing that i have watched in the past few months have been Pasolini's 1,001 arabian nights. Also, Peter Greenaway's a walk through H and the Falls, which comes as a double set, is excellent if you like borges type work. Come and see is also amazing if you have never seen it. I would recomend that film first. And always emperor tomato ketchup. explore some on the ubu.com video page.
