I don't know, I tried to like Panda Bear and the Animal Collective records but they just never clicked. I enjoyed Neon Bible but I felt a bit disappointed however that's probably more due to my own expectations than the record itself. The same thing goes for Widow City. I think its the same thing with Jens' record. I loved the EPs and though NFOK is a cool record it just wasn't what I was expecting. And that's not a bad thing. For what he wanted to do with it, he did it very well.

Which one of these "records of the year" have you really given an honest shot but just never clicked?

Which one of these "records of the year" have you really given an honest shot but just never clicked?

Spoon "Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga"
a bit over-produced

Fiery Furnaces "Widow City"
They've gotten too into weirdness for weirdness's sake with all the sounds they pile into their records, and they've lost the ability to write the simple hooks that make "Gallowsbird's Bark" the most consistently listenable FF album. They've always been great live, though, I read someone say "Widow City" songs live were better than the album, I don't doubt that at all

also, it's good to wait to make a list, that way you get to read everybody else's and see what you haven't heard yet. Shugo Tokumaru was a good find (on the lists of aqualad and Cornelius)

edit: not on Cornelius's, that was Yurayura Teikoku I was thinking of. good stuff

Haha, so I love The Con by Tegan and Sara to an embarrassing extent.
The only other three I really got into are all reissues. Static Disposal by Debris', holy shit. Colossal Youth by Young Marble Giants. And Gyrate Plus by Pylon. I don't think that counts though. I haven't really been paying attention to new music all that much. (I've still got to check out the Grant McLennan reissues, too.)

As far as singles, "Shenkie" by De Jeugd van Tegenwoordig all the way.

no joke! wyatt's a genius! pick up rock bottom, ruth is stranger than richard, cuckooland, old rottenhat, shleep, and solar flares for you. everything he's done is brilliant. the soft machine ( his early band) albums are fantastic 60's avant pysch jazz.
