Hey, I've heard reference to Kevin Barnes being a bit of a cinephile a few times through various interviews and songs, etc. I've been trying to find some good movies to watch but haven't seen much good lately so I was hoping if people remembered movies that Kevin Barnes has referenced or recommended we could compile them here. I'll start it out with an obvious one: in The Past Is A Grotesque Animal he makes reference to the movie (or possibly play) Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? (Also, even if it's not a movie Kevin recommended but is a good movie put it up here I just want to get some good recommendations.)

Kevin said his favorite movie was Revenge of the Nerds in an interview a little while ago

it's here: http://www.daytrotter.com/article/323/free-songs-of-montreal
he mentions Shoot The Piano Player as an influence in writing "Bunny Aint No Kind of Rider" also he mentions The Phantom of Liberty as an influence for "Lysergic Bliss"

What’s up, directors? Grab your knives!
It’s time to take all all of the lives
Of the people who cannot see
The somnolent genius of Tarkovsky

As a film studies major, I must say that Kevin has really good taste in movies based on the names he drops.

does he mention Bunuel directly in Lysergic?
i believe there's some song on either Satanic or Sunlandic where a foreign film director is mentioned directly.

Tarkovsky directed the original Solaris and other films.

i could have swore Bunuel is directly mentioned - maybe i'm just think of Phantom of Liberty being directly mentioned in Lysergic Bliss.

honestly, looking at these lyrics, i have no idea what he's saying on a good deal of Sunlandic.

Openly and unshamefully seeking films that Kevin Barnes digs is so sad. When I say sad, I don' mean pathetic...I mean I truly weep for you. Must be hard not having your own mind. It's one thing to pick up a film if you hear some banging on about it...but seeking out articles, interviews etc, well that's just weird, sad, and truly absurd. Good luck.

I think what is more sad as that you would attack one of my posts unprovoked. If you thought it was stupid you could just not comment. If you had taken the time to actually read the initial post you would see that I left it open to people's own reccomendations but made it initially about Kevin Barnes seeing as...(prepare to be shocked)...this IS an of Montreal message board.

i think it's pretty normal to want to know what your favorite artists listen to or watch.

i have had a lot of good recommendations from Thom Yorke via interviews over the years.

btw, Kevin's top 10 records of 2007 is up on Pitchfork (i imagine there's probably another thread already)
