Are there any cherry peel era pictures or video available on the internet. I know there probably isnt any video but there at least should be some early pictures of the original trio or something.

I thought it was moustache until Windows told me it was wrong. I guess it's mustache.

moustache (pronounced moo-stash) is the french spelling actually so you're still kind of right.

I believe they played the knitting factory, when I saw it. I think it was 2002.

I wasn't able to find any handlebar moustache pictures, but I managed to find this pre-Coquelicot interview:

Here is another interview done by the same site posted by Whiskeygingerale, but it includes the whole band and covers a lot more area. I really enjoyed it. Made me wish I was a part of the early days.

I think there should be an effort to assemble old pictures, interviews, videos... etc. All I seem to hear about is the latest album. Search of Montreal on youtube you'll find nothing but recent live shows. Searching for pics brings the same results, either pictures of their insane wardrobes or kevin's dick. All I seem to have from their early era is the music itself. They must have been really unknown in the late 90s. Needless to say this effort will be the responsibility of everyone but me. Good luck.

on the old of montreal website they had tons of photos from tours and promo shots dating back to '97. did you know that kevin used to were jeans and t shirts... even while playing shows?! ;)

Use archive.org to look around on the old website:
http://web.archive.org/web/*/http://www.ofmontreal.net
The ones with the asterisk probably work the best. I just clicked a few and didn't have any trouble looking at the pictures on the archived updates of the site:
(ie - this on the 1997-1999 pics section)

YESS!! Thank you this is exactly what I was looking for. I've always wanted to know what they looked like in their youth. BP looks exactly the same. Dottie actually looks older. And Jamie has this sweet bird thing going on with his face in this picture: http://web.archive.org/web/20021028122453/elfpower.drool.org/om/pics/om-spr99-800.jpg

Yes, indeed, it's good to see pictures of the good old days, before they were drawing a government pension and losing their dentures when they took them out at night.

he wasnt trying to sell records with the stories.
But he was with the dance beats?
It's like -- damn Kevin what's with the drum programming? Why don't you just go back to recording drumset tracks one piece at a time! That probably didn't take very long!

I think the drum programming is cool and refreshing. And he still records real drums on some songs.

Yeah, thanks, but that was his short-lived beard phase from a couple years ago. His handlebar moustache was definitely on the Aldhils tour in 2002. I distinctly remember him singing "Doing Nothing" with it. It was a striking image.
It looked more like this extreme example...
