Here's a link to a clip of a video interview I did last March with BP about the importance of independent record stores- he's got some great things to say! It is just a quick clip of the forth coming independent film documentary entitled "I Need That Record: The Death (or Possible Survival of the Independent Record Store)."

Enjoy!

that's sweet. i actually, still to this day, have never owned any kind of mp3 player or anything.. basically for the same sort of reasons. there's something so disgusting about having every single song you've known and loved in front of your index finger at all times.

Though I partially agree with you, having an mp3 player is unbelievably convenient. Vinyl is only good when there's a player present, which isn't often. CDs are great, but are overwhelming when trying to transport from house to car, car to work, etc. Having an mp3 player keeps it simple when changing locations. It's only one gadget to worry about.
But don't get me wrong, there's nothing like the feeling of having a full album in your hands. Even with CDs, you don't get the same kind of personalization that you do with vinyls.

Vinyl fever is so passe. I take aim and suggest that no less than 50% of such people in fact listen and enjoy vinyl in the way they so they do, but rather sit there with a short pile of 45's wondering why it is they feel the need to make such claims....and the other 48% have too much money to squander, or are actually content with the modern shortcomings that come along with buying purchases on vinyl only.
Only 2% enjoy life.

maybe...still I have collected thru the years about 600 albums and many cd's. the good thing about lps is I never lose them. I have lost countless cds - or broken them while trying to play them in the car - the car being the only place I listen to cds.
But ...because it's convenient, while I’m on the computer – like now – I listen to music I downloaded onto my computer.
Still, I like the records because when I listen to records it means I am not driving or posting…just listening. Its good to make time for just listening.

My favourite thing about vinyl is being able to browse through them on a shelf, and just slip it out with an index finger. And of course, being able to hold and look at the cover art.

I'm not try to be mean but, aren't things like message boards for recreation? well, i guess if being like this is fun to you then i could understand at-least that much..

I've seen several vinyl albums that include an mp3 download of the album with purchase, that's the way of the future for vinyl - best of both worlds.

i mean i've got a lot of lps, 7"s, singles, and all... but more cds than anything. i've got probably 1,500. i am very happy with my music like this. it's my collection. it's all there. i don't want to hit a button and hear james taylor then press another and hear mojave 3. after a while it's all nothing anymore. life is long enough to spread it all out. i think i would feel like i had some sort of schizo music disease. also, people who just download are missing the fuck out on all of the artwork, layout, and personal value.

i mean i've never counted my cds, but what's discouraging is that if i do have 1,500, that's like 15,000 or 20,000 dollars.

I buy vinyl if I can and then rip it onto my computer. Obliviously their is no comparison between MP3 and vinyl, however it allows me to have an everyday mp3 version and still have the vinyl for listening to at home. It seems to work, I am not sure why more people don't do this.

I know it is probably easy, but I don't actually know how to rip vinyl to my computer. what special device is needed for this little trick? I have so many records I would love to rip.

I count you among those in the first 50% mentioned. You seem mad. Like I turned the light on your tiny stack of vinyl and exposed you as the over-zelous pop tart that you are.

It's spelled zealous.

Yeah, my vinyl copy of Aesop Rock's "None Shall Pass" had that. I like this idea a lot since the last 20 cds I bought were mostly for the artwork/liner notes/to support the musicians since I'd already downloaded the music. At least this way I get full-sized art to hang on my wall AND get a legal download.
