I'm not sure of what song is being covered... I know that "Touch the Water" was given takes by the Apples, Von, and even the Lilys (their version is on the "Selected" EP; a sort of rarities/unreleased single), so it might be a candidate. In which case 'cover' might not be the best characterization, but bleh.
You're welcome in any case :)
haha yeah, i know that Jim had written some early apples stuff, dots 1-2-3, Touch the water, To Love the Vibration of the Bulb, and one more i can't remember. i did not know about the Lilys thing thou so, yay cool new info :D

You probably read my post before I revised it. Jim wrote me to clarify that it's not the Apples covering Von Hemmling, it's an early Apples song that Jim is singing lead on. Actually I'll just post part of his email (I hope he doesn't mind):
the apples in stereo song, "stripes and buttons", on the cd isn't really a cover. i wrote the song during my time in the band, for the band, and the recording is from a live apples gig (I'm singing).
The only real cover is of the song "vegetable reefer", by the lilys, in section 6.
oh man thats awesome! I'm so excited to hear and apples song i haven't heard before, none the less with Jim singing! it sounds better every second!
